New Maker; Bradley

Wednesday, March 22nd, 2017

BradleyWe are pleased to introduce to the newest member of our team, Bradley Rowland. Brad served his apprenticeship at another furniture making company in North Dorset but, as the boyfriend of our landlord’s daughter, he was keen to find work closer to home – well you can’t get much closer than across the farmyard!!

In fact there is very little reason for Brad to ever leave the farm, with girlfriend, job, home and hobby in one neat package! Brad is a keen motocross biker and spends much of his spare time at Rogers Hill Raceway just up the hill from the workshop. We are always relieved to see Brad in one piece on Monday morning as he is developing into a talented maker and has been a welcome addition to our team.

We are very proud of our support of emerging furniture making talent, some of whom we have introduced to you before. Click here to read about ‘New’ Mike and Tom…

Dorset Art Weeks – Furniture for sale

Tuesday, May 10th, 2016

During Dorset Art Weeks 2016 we will have various ex-show pieces on sale with significant reductions on what would be their ‘commissioned’ price. Once a speculative piece has done a number of exhibitions for us we feel it has ‘earned its keep’ and it’s time to find it a new home. This ensures there is always something new to look at on a visit to the Courtyard Gallery and an opportunity for us to explore new design ideas.

The Courtyard Gallery & Workshops are open throughout Dorset Art Weeks (28th May until 12th June 2016) from 10am till 5pm every day. The private view of the exhibition is on the evening of Thursday 26th 96 till 9pm) so if you would like to come along and see the furniture at the earliest opportunity please get in contact with Simon or John.

Open Workshop Weekend, 5-6 October 2013

Monday, September 16th, 2013

Simon, John & Mike hope you will be able to join them during their Open Workshop Weekend at the Courtyard Workshop. As always there will be a selection of stunning bespoke furniture in the showroom plus a first view of the latest public seating project for Persimmon Homes, designed in conjunction with ZMMA Architects, Shaftesbury & London.

You will be well looked after with tipples and nibbles from an exciting line-up of Dorset based producers including teas from Comins Tea House, award winning wines from the Furleigh Estate and delicious treats from Ashley Eldridge-Ford of Home-Cooked Hampers.

But this is also about our own work – as always the gallery space will be full of fine furniture; from cabinets and side tables, from desks to garden benches, from dressing tables to dining sets. We will also have a number of pieces on offer at up to half their ‘to commission’ price, including ex showroom ‘Floating Benches’, the ‘Banquet’ dining table, our ‘Rosa’ dressing table and the beautiful English walnut ‘Ronald’ desk.

Images left to right: ‘Rosa Dressing Table’ in ash, for sale £2950 (from £4250). ‘Floating Bench’ in oak and scorched oak, 2 available for sale at £1950 each, or £3500 for pair (from £2950 each). ‘Ronald Desk’ in English walnut, for sale £2950 (from £4250).

Below: ‘Banquet Dining Table’ in bleached / scrubbed ash with elm frame. 230cm x 94cm, seats 8 to 10. For sale £2950 (from £6250).

There is also new furniture on show plus exciting work in progress in the form of our huge sculptural benches made of bent, scorched oak logs for Persimmon Homes East Shaftesbury development. We’ve been working on these in conjunction with Adam Zombory-Moldovan of ZMMA Architects for some time now, this is the first of a series of joint public art & seating projects with ZMMA, and its first public ‘outing’. Site work will start late October.

Watch this space for specific information on tasting times with our Dorset food and drink producers, although their products will be available throughout the Open Workshop Weekend. A warm welcome awaits, we hope you will be able to join us…
