This stunning table in native elm is truly one of the loveliest pieces we have made. It spurred 3 commissions for similar tables including a slightly larger 3.2m version with matching bench we have just completed for company in the North of England. However the original 2.8m Ziggurat is now being offered for sale.
Made from elm from the Hillgrove reserve stocks, the top is made from two bookmatched boards which have the stunning character and colour native elm is so renowned for. In this case the greens and reddish browns come through strongly creating a warmth and beauty unparalleled in any table we have made before. It really is rather special! The frame, also in elm is lacquered a very rich dark brown – almost but not quite black. As much as we would like to keep it, and so would Hillgrove Timber, it is fairly big so it would be nice to find its ‘forever’ home. As a result we may be open to a sensible offer on this unique piece; Remember we and Hillgrove can trace the provenance of this particular tree back to where it grew in the Scottish lowlands!
We made a short film that followed the making of this table and the relationship between ourselves as makers and Hillgrove as suppliers of very special native hardwoods. It gives you a perfect opportunity to see just how lovely this particular table is…
