Our now classic outdoor bench is much admired by the private clients and garden designers alike, having featured in two award-winning RHS Gardens and being shortlisted as RHS Chelsea Garden Product of the Year in 2016. It was also awarded the prestigious ‘Design Guild Mark’ by the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers. Floating Bench was hailed as a ‘design classic of the future’ by the Independent Weekend Magazine and was included as part of Liberty’s ‘Outdoor Living Collection’ in 2013.
Made in FSC / PEFC / GiB certified natural and scorched oak, this bench is not only beautiful, it is also environmentally sensitive using timbers sourced in the UK with low transport miles from sustainable sources. We use a low solvent oil / wax for the surface finish which offers good protection against the British weather. The ‘floating’ back is shaped by using steam bending with native oak.
The original ‘Two Tone’ bench is now complimented by these ‘Noir’ all scorched black edition as well as by the ‘Blonde’ all natural oak version. These striking new benches were first launched at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2017.
The Floating Bench is available in generously proportioned 2 and 3 seat versions through Simon Thomas Pirie. Floating Bench and its sister piece – the Yakisugi Swing Seat, is also available through Sitting Spiritually of Lyme Regis, as part of their ‘Simon Thomas Pirie Contemporary Range’.
