New Maker; Bradley

Wednesday, March 22nd, 2017

BradleyWe are pleased to introduce to the newest member of our team, Bradley Rowland. Brad served his apprenticeship at another furniture making company in North Dorset but, as the boyfriend of our landlord’s daughter, he was keen to find work closer to home – well you can’t get much closer than across the farmyard!!

In fact there is very little reason for Brad to ever leave the farm, with girlfriend, job, home and hobby in one neat package! Brad is a keen motocross biker and spends much of his spare time at Rogers Hill Raceway just up the hill from the workshop. We are always relieved to see Brad in one piece on Monday morning as he is developing into a talented maker and has been a welcome addition to our team.

We are very proud of our support of emerging furniture making talent, some of whom we have introduced to you before. Click here to read about ‘New’ Mike and Tom…

Blue Sky Thinking Out In The Garden

Swing Seats from Sitting Spiritually’s Current Range. Left to Right: Kyokusen Fan Back / Tranquillity Fan Back / Harmony Fan Back.

Always keen to find new ways of challenging ourselves, we are very proud to announce a new collaboration with Lyme Regis based company, Sitting Spiritually. Designers and makers of high quality garden furniture, Sitting Spiritually are renowned for their traditional swing seats which combine classic good looks with exceptional comfort and the durability of solid timber. A blend so successful that they are the ‘go to’ swing seat company for many top end garden designers and the only swing seat and bench manufacturer licenced by the RHS.

Brought together through social media, our two companies swiftly recognised a mutual design philosophy leading Martin Young, founder of Sitting Spiritually, to approach Simon with an idea which would result in this inspiring new relationship.

Consequently we are now working collaboratively to design a swing seat and associated range of outdoor furniture with a more contemporary twist. Early designs and prototypes have been encouraging and we are anticipating being able to share further details and possibly some more images with you in the spring newsletter. For now this is all we can give you, but you’ll already see a family resemblance to our floating bench which is no accident…

In addition Sitting Spiritually will now market the ‘The Floating Bench’ as part of their new ‘Simon Thomas Pirie Contemporary Range’. Originally inspired by our public seating outside Waitrose in Dorchester, this collection of contemporary garden furniture features clean lines of scorched and natural oak and looks stunning as a single seat chair or as a 2, 3 or 4 seat bench.

This is a very exciting project to follow last year’s successful collaboration with Makers’ Eye for which we received both a Wood Award and a Design Guild Mark. The new seat will be launched on Sitting Spiritually’s stand at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in May so imagine spending next summer relaxing in one of our swing seats, the soft breeze gently rocking you as you gaze dreamily at the cloudless, blue sky…

The new Sitting Spiritually Simon Thomas Pirie Contemporary Range Swing Seat will compliment the existing ‘Floating Bench’.
